Region 16-2 @ Chelsea HS 5/17/24The Huron Track Teams experienced a roller coaster of emotions as they qualified for the State Finals in four events while narrowly missing the mark in six others, coming in just short on qualifying times and placements.
The Huron Men’s Track team experienced a significant emotional swing, highlighted by Lucas Kuhn’s outstanding performance in the 1600M run. Kuhn flawlessly executed his game plan to become the regional champion setting a new school record with a time of 4:20.66. However, in the 4×400M relay, his triumphant day took a dramatic turn when he suffered a heart-stopping hamstring injury in the final 200 meters of his leg, where his team, including Folkwein, Biller, and Mihal, was on pace for qualifying. Dylan Hudkins surpassed the additional qualifying times, securing 4th place in the 110M hurdles with a time of 15.51 and in the 300M hurdles, punching his ticket to the State Finals. In the 300M hurdles, Hudkins not only met the standard but also set a new school record with an impressive time of 40.60. The Chiefs were tantalizingly close to achieving additional qualifying times, with Shaun Folkwein clocking in at 11.40 in the 100M dash (a personal record), Hunter Mihal finishing the 400M dash in 51.66, Lucas Kuhn completing the 800M run in 2:00.66, and Luke Dulecki crossing the line at 9:48.46 in the 3200M run (a personal record). The team shows promise for the future and is poised to return even more determined for the 2025 Regional meet.
